In 1958 C. Lloyd Dinsmore, Sr. and Carl A. Ivy, long time partners in several businesses in the Anniston area, opened a very small used car lot in the 100 block of West 10th Street. Cars were towed from Chicago, repaired, repainted if needed, and then sold. They were financed for fifty dollars down and ten dollars a week.

In December of 1959 or January of 1960, an old house was leased at 902 Clydesdale Avenue. A four or five stall cleanup bay and a paint shop were built to operate the used car operation.

On February the 1st of 1960 the corporation, General Sales Company, Inc. of Anniston, Alabama, was formed. C. Lloyd Dinsmore, Sr. and Carl A. Ivy were the original owners of the corporation.

In the mid 1960's the corporation moved to 500 South Quintard. They began to stock more expensive automobiles and would finance them at the local banks.

On November the 25th of 1970 a letter was written to Robert M. Ferguson (Bob), the Dealer Placement Manager for the Atlanta Lincoln Mercury division, requesting the Lincoln Mercury Capri franchises be granted to General Sales Company, Inc. d.b.a. Anniston Lincoln Mercury. On December the 10th of 1970, Bob notified the corporation that Ford Motor Company had awarded the corporation the franchises.

A lease was signed on August 31, 1971 with Marcus (Junior) Fant to lease the property at 1229 South Quintard. A construction contract with Concrete Products Co. of Anniston was signed the same day to construct the building. The buildings were to be completed by October 30, 1971.

On July the 8th of 1980, an application was made to Chrysler Corporation to obtain a Sales Agreement for the Dodge franchise. On October the 23rd of 1980, approval for the franchise was obtained. The name was changed to Anniston Dodge.

The Dinsmores continued to operate Anniston Dodge as absentee owners until December of 1980 when Charles L. Dinsmore moved to Anniston.

On December the 31st of 1983, Charles L. Dinsmore purchased his father's remaining stock in the corporation. The corporation continued until February 4, 2004 when Wade Dinsmore purchased part of the stock in the corporation.
